West Novi This Fall: The Last Weeks of the Beck Road Detour, a New Boardwalk to Bosco Fields, and the Showplace Weekends to Plan Around

Northbound Beck Road between 11 Mile and Grand River is still closed to traffic. The City of Novi's project page, last updated September 22, 2026, says Beck is open southbound only. Northbound drivers are detoured over 10 Mile, Novi Road and Grand River Avenue, and the city lists November 2026 as the end date.

The last leg of that detour is Grand River, the same road as Vibe Credit Union Showplace at 46100 Grand River. Between now and mid-November the Showplace has a consumer show booked on almost every weekend. So for the rest of this fall in west Novi, the question is which weekend the detour shares with which crowd.

How Close Beck Road Is to Done

The project is a $3.6 million, federally funded rebuild that widens Beck to five lanes from just south of Grand River to the north side of the 11 Mile intersection. It replaces the old roadside ditches with curb, gutter and a new storm sewer network, upgrades the signal at the hospital entrance, and adds ADA sidewalk along the corridor.

The city's progress notes show the road being finished one half at a time:

  • July 21: Southbound construction complete. Traffic moved onto the new concrete lanes, and work began on the northbound side.
  • September 8: Southbound lanes complete and final stone grade in place on the northbound side.
  • Mid-September: Main line paving of the northbound lanes finished.

The most recent entry describes the work still remaining:

"This week, the contractor will begin paving the individual gaps for driveway openings half a width at a time, placing new curb on the extended northbound lane, and installing new sidewalk on the east side of Beck Road."

That leaves driveway gaps, curb and the east-side sidewalk. The northbound pavement is down. The city also warns on the same page that weather and other circumstances can move project dates. As of October 4, nothing the city has posted says northbound Beck is open again. Plan October as if the detour is still in place.

The Weekends That Land on the Detour Route

Here is the Showplace's posted lineup through mid-November, plus the outside events that fall on the same days:

  1. October 9–11. The Novi Home Show and the Novi Pet Expo run the same weekend. The Pet Expo's organizers promise animal demonstrations, contests, more than 20 rescue groups and adoption opportunities. Two shows on one weekend is the heaviest overlap of October.
  2. October 17–18. The Shiny Rust Hot Rod Spectacular.
  3. October 27–29. The Automotive Interiors Expo and the Automotive Testing Expo, both midweek. The Engineers Get Hired Job Fair follows on Thursday, October 29. This is weekday trade traffic, so it overlaps commute hours instead of Saturday errands.
  4. November 5–8. The Original Sewing & Quilt Expo runs Thursday through Saturday, and the Snowmobile Show starts Friday and runs through Sunday. Diwali Fest also falls on that Thursday at the Novi Civic Center, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  5. November 13–15. Motor City Comic Con. Hours are noon to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Showplace calendar is live and can change, so check it before you build a Saturday around one of these dates. Some of these weekends may fall after Beck reopens, since the city's end date is a month, not a day. The October weekends, though, are the ones most likely to overlap with the detour.

That same Comic Con weekend has a second draw across town. The Trading Post, a new trading card game shop and lounge with 48 seats, is scheduled to open October 16 at 44375 W. Twelve Mile Road in 12 Mile Crossing by Emagine. Its Novi Chamber listing says it will host the UniVersus World Championship November 13–15. Two card-and-collectibles events on the same three days, one on Grand River and one on 12 Mile, makes mid-November a busy weekend for that hobby in Novi.

Getting Around the Show Traffic

Drivers heading north from the Beck and 11 Mile area during the detour loop east to Novi Road before coming back west on Grand River. If you're on that loop, these stops are already on your route:

  • Henry Ford Providence Novi Hospital at 47601 Grand River. The Beck Road project includes upgrades to the signal at the hospital entrance.
  • Leo's Coney Island at 47830 Grand River.
  • The Home Depot at 47950 Grand River, which the store describes as between Beck and Wixom roads, just south of I-96.

One more name will come up around that intersection. A proposal called Grand-Beck Development, for 47277 Grand River and part of 26900 Beck, would add a fuel station, convenience store and car wash. A January 14, 2026 Planning Commission agenda notes its preliminary site plan had already been approved and that a driveway-spacing waiver was under consideration. It's a plan on file, not a business you can visit.

What the Boardwalk Adds at Beck and 11 Mile

At the south end of the Beck project, a second job is turning the same intersection into a trail connection. The city is building an asphalt shared-use path from the existing ITC Trail, south of 11 Mile Road, east to Bosco Fields Park and on to Beck Road. It includes about 600 feet of 14-foot-wide boardwalk. The $230,000 project is federally funded through SEMCOG and needs no road closures.

The schedule has slipped. The project page still shows an end date of May 15, 2026. The Bosco Fields park page says the connector was expected in summer 2026. The most recent update, from September 17, said the boardwalk would be finished that week, weather permitting, with asphalt paving starting late that week and continuing into the next. The city has not yet posted that the path is open.

Once it opens, the link joins two well-used places:

  • Bosco Fields has 13 soccer fields sized for 4v4, 7v7, 9v9 and 11v11 play. It also has open greenspace, Jessica's Splashpad, parking off Beck and 11 Mile, and portable restrooms.
  • The ITC Corridor Trail is a 4.66-mile paved trail that runs north to south through Novi between the hospital campus and ITC Community Sports Park. The city's trail page still uses the campus's earlier Ascension Providence name. Listed trailheads are at ITC Community Sports Park, the Nine Mile Road Trailhead and Wildlife Woods Park on Wixom Road.
  • ITC Community Sports Park has soccer and baseball facilities, tennis and basketball courts, a picnic shelter and two play structures.

The two projects also fit together on foot. The final stage of the Beck work adds new sidewalk on the east side of Beck, and the trail link ends at Beck. When both are done, you should be able to walk or bike from the ITC Trail to Bosco's fields and onto the rebuilt Beck corridor without using a road shoulder. The city also describes a longer goal of linking Novi's parks to Maybury Park, the I-275 Corridor and Hines Park in Northville, Livonia and Westland. That's presented as a future plan, not a route you can ride today.

Fall Dates Away From Grand River

Several of Novi's fall dates are far from the Showplace corridor:

  • Sunday, October 25: Free Trick or Treat at Fountain Walk from 1 to 4 p.m., with a sensory-friendly session from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 31: The city's recommended trick-or-treat hours are 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 5: Diwali Fest at the Novi Civic Center, with food, vendors, performances, a lamp lighting led by the mayor and fireworks at 8:15 p.m.

Elsewhere in the city, road work is moving at different speeds. Novi Road between 8 Mile and 9 Mile fully reopened on September 2, and the city has marked that project complete. The Road Commission for Oakland County's 12 Mile Road project, from Novi Road to Farmington Road, started in August. It's a four-stage, two-year job with one lane expected to stay open in each direction, and the city lists October 30, 2027 as the end date. The Beck detour should end this fall, but the 12 Mile lane restrictions will be around next fall too.

A finished Beck Road with new sidewalk and a boardwalk to Bosco Fields changes how the Beck and 11 Mile corner gets around.
